1949 ford anglia tourer

Ian Summers is a collector and restorer of classic cars, especially the British variety.

He is also one of the St. Marys  Cranks and Tinkerers group which organised the car show during the Wrapped in St Marys weekend.

The Anglia was not part of the car show this year, but it was parked in the street for the day and attracted quite a lot of attention from visitors to the town.

Here is a side view with the roof folded down –

a view of the front –

another side view with the roof up (it is raining, after all) –

and a back view –

This Anglia has an 8-horsepower engine, and used to be driven every day until it was semi-retired out of respect for its age.

Ian even drove it up to the top of Mt. Barrow once, which is quite a feat for such a little engine!

This post would not be complete without a photo of the man himself, so here he is at the car show with a couple of ex-students (he was a teacher in a former life) –

The sun sent its rays of light through the trees as stitchedupmama went to work early in the morning:

2 woodland jellyfish didn’t seem to mind the icy air –

a garland wasn’t worried –

and the bunting certainly had no complaints –

The ground, the grass, the air – crisp, cold and beautiful … a cool but sunny start to our Wrapped in St Marys event:

exhibitions 2

Following on from my first post about exhibitions in our town during our Wrapped in St Marys weekend, here is a slideshow of another display.

Penny Clark, nee Byard (a former resident) is the artist behind The Art of Tea, which was showcased in the Purple Possum Wholefoods Cafe.

Tea was actually used to colour some of the artwork –

During the Wrapped in St Marys weekend, several exhibitions appeard in various venues around the town.

Barbara Mellor, a textile artist from the local Break O’Day municipality, specialises in using Asian fabrics, including Japanese antique kimono and obi.  She also incorporates other materials, such as Cambodian woven fabric and Indian sari fabric.

Here is a slideshow of her wonderful quilts and cushions, showcased at Gone Rustic Studio & Gallery.  To view any item in a larger format, first click pause, then right click on the photo and select view

people

What would any event be without the people?   Visitors, volunteers, participants … we couldn’t do without them.

Here is a selection of VIP’s, including 1 or 2 of the canine variety. There is even a photo of our ‘official’ photographer, Margit – can you find her?

The car show was well supported despite the rain, as mentioned in the previous post.

Here are some more photos from our resident photographer – thanks again, Margit!

… fuel, of course!!

The second highlight event for Wrapped in St Marys was the car show.

This is held every year on the first Sunday in June by the St. Marys Cranks and Tinkerers.  Despite the rain, Faulkner’s Green in the town centre was full of classic and/or unique cars, driven by enthusiasts from the local area and across the state.

Michael Rowlings of Herrick was the winner of a cheque* and other goodies; all the visiting drivers also received a show bag of car-related items which had been donated by a number of organisations and individuals.

Many thanks to all who had a part to play in making this 6th annual car show a success, including the Break O’Day Woodcraft Guild for providing public liability insurance.

Here’s a slideshow of some of the highlights:
